How Touriosity Works

Touriosity is an Online Travel Agent (OTA) with a conscience. Our main focus and aim is to help tour and activity providers grow direct bookings while complementing their own direct marketing efforts.

We will never compete against those operators we seek to help, and make it our mission to give back to the tours and activity sector by making ourselves a non profit organisation, giving any profits we make back to the operators we support.

As an operator, your brand will be at the fore on the Touriosity platform, giving complete transparency to the consumer. We will provide you with the data that your customers provide allowing you to target them with direct marketing in the future.

Welcome to Touriosity — an OTA done right.

THe Platform

Touriosity is a website-based platform that allows tour operators and activity providers to showcase their best products, accept online bookings through their current reservation systems*, linking to their current availability. The platform is also marketed through Facebook ads and other means, helping to promote your brand and your products.

The platform is more of a marketing consortium than an OTA, as all revenue generated on the platform is used to market Touriosity and the brands it aims to help. Touriosity is a non-profit organisation.

Your brand will not be hidden on this platform; it will be as visual as possible to your potential customer so they know exactly who they are purchasing a tour or experience from.

THe Approach

Looking at how other platforms list products, Touriosity will follow a similar model to AirBNB.

To make sure we are offering outstanding experiences to potential customers, we will only allow established tour and activity providers who have an online review rating of at least 4 out of 5.

For those newly established businesses (must have been incorporated on or after the 1st May 2019) looking to get on to the platform, who have no reviews, we will accept you with the caveat that you must build up your reputation/reviews within the next 12 months. If this can’t be achieved, your listing on our platform will not renew until you are able to improve your review rating.

Whether you are a one-person business or a large organisation, at launch we only allow 5 products per operator to be on the platform; this maintains quality and provides a level playing field. It also allows us to launch the platform quicker than if we had to process dozens of products per company right at the beginning. This will increase over time for an additional fee. We will also only allow 3 operators from any one city to provide the same product on Touriosity at any one time. Competition and choice for the customer is good, but it also needs to be fair.

You do not get access to update content on the platform as we handle all this for you and our team of content writers will optimise and rewrite tour content specifically for our platform to negate any duplicate content issues on Google and on your own website.

The aim of the platform is to help market small operators and their products online as we know many of you can not afford a marketing agency.

We are, of course, open to larger operators as well. This is why the platform will only work with a good amount of operators on board.

A Phased Approach

Phase One

The platform will launch with products linked to existing reservation systems. This is to help keep development costs down and test the platform over the next 12 months. This also keeps your availability and payments all in one place.

For those who do not currently have a reservation system, we are looking to partner up with reservation systems to provide preferential rates. More information for booking and reservation systems to be included in our approved list can be read here.

We may be able to also offer online bookings using the platform’s internal system but we have a number of elements to discuss and refine to make this work for everyone. One vital aspect to figure out is how we handle cancellations. More information and discussion can be seen here.

Phase Two

After 12 months, and when the platform has been a success, we may look to fully integrate other reservation systems into the platform if it is deemed necessary. This is a platform for you, the operator, so we will look to do what is best for you while at the same time not increasing costs.
