Our mission is to make you love Thailand and to make you want to come back again and again.

Through our intimate knowledge of the country, the culture and the people we will show you aspects that you probably won’t see traveling on your own or through travel companies based in other countries. At the same time half of the management staff in Bangkok Beyond are Norwegians so we also know about what western tourists expect, and what they like and dislike.

    • 8 Hours approx
    • Private Tour
    • Thailand

Take a trip out of the honking, shoulder-to-shoulder scene of Bangkok’s crowded sidewalks and back into Thailand’s enchanting rustic past to explore two of the Kingdom’s most unique and charming markets – Maeklong Railway Market and Damnoen Saduak Floating Market.

    Highlights

    • Take a long tail boat along the canal to floating market. Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is a breathtaking vestige of traditional Thai trade along the waterways, where you will climb aboard a boat and make your way, barely gliding past other boats loaded down with fruits, sweets, flowers, and other delights of the kingdom, through the bustling market waterway and back into Thailand’s past.
    • Watch the train make its way through the market. Maeklong Railway Market is completely retractable to accommodate passing trains. When the train comes rolling by at a gentle 10-20 kilometers an hour the siren sounds and the market is quickly moved back a meter; once it has passed the canopies are quickly thrust back out and business resumes.
    • At the end of tour will stop at salt field or sugar farm depending on season. Sugar palm is a famous quality product of Samut Songkram.

    Locations

    Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

Before industrialism came to Thailand, the rivers and canals were the pulsing arteries of the kingdom.

    Maeklong Railway Market

A massive fresh seafood, clothing, and produce market, Maeklong Railway Market is completely retractable to accommodate passing trains. When the train comes rolling by at a gentle 10-20 kilometers an hour the siren sounds and the market is quickly moved back a meter; once it has passed the canopies are quickly thrust back out and business resumes.

The train passes the market many times a day, 6:20 am at the earliest and 5:40 pm at the latest. Also, because of its location, pairing it with Damnoen Saduak Floating Market makes for a perfect day trip.
