The Chinggis Statue (Tsonjin Boldog), located 55 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar, is a 131 ft tall stainless steel statue of Chinggis Khaan sitting atop his horse. The statue faces east and has a commanding view towards Chinggis Khaan’s birthplace in the Khentii Province and the Khentii Mountains, where he honed his skills as a warrior and leader. One can climb up inside the statue and over the walkway on top of the horse’s mane to view the surrounding area. It’s quite a sight. A museum and restaurant are located at its base. The famous Turtle Rock in Gorkhi-Terelj National Park can be visited on the return to Ulaanbaatar.
