During the 16th and 17th centuries, Sawai Jai Singh, established the city of Jaipur and invited brass metal artisans, marble statue masons, and tie-and-dye artists from all over India to work and prosper in his kingdom. This tour is about how the lives of the royalty and the artisans were entwined together. We start this experience with a tour of the city palace which was established as the ceremonial and administrative seat of the king, Sawai Jai Singh. The palace shows the architecture along with the artefacts hand crafted by the artisans, meeting places for the commons and the ministers, textile gallery, painting and photo gallery, transport gallery, and arms & armour gallery.

    Eat

After the tour of the city palace, we take a short tuk-tuk ride, and begin the walking tour of the streets where these artisans live. We stop for food tasting which includes Dahi Kachori (non-spicy fritter filled with lentils and served with fresh yogurt), Rabri (a mild sweet made with buffalo milk, saffron and pistachio), and Masala chai (Indian milk tea with a special mix of spices).

    Do

Visit the artisans of brass utensil and craft items, stone carving and polishing, and bangle making. Visit the homes which also double up as the workshops of these artisans for a demonstration of their craft along with storytelling about their community. Try your hands at polishing a marble statue under the guidance of a skilled artisan and know the nuances of this craft form.

    Take

Take back a small marble statue of lord Ganesh or any other idol that made by the artisan.
