Expedition Bali offers a variety of tours that encompass history, nature and geology, all complimented by some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of natural wonders that you will be able to see with your own eyes, be it in Kintamani with Mount Batur, or one of the many waterfalls.
This tour is essentially four tours in one day.
You’ll be picked up from your accommodation in Bali by a privately owned, airconditioned vehicle that will have the volcanic water on board for you to drink at your leisure. Now you’re on your way to visit Penglipuran, a beautiful highland village best known for its well-preserved culture, traditional village layout and pristine grounds with no rubbish. Ask your guide about the mythology behind the name of the village. The family compounds are well-kept to retain their old-world architecture, with manicured gardens lining its single, stone-paved street running through the centre of the village toward the village temple. The age-old arched entrance gates and walls that conceal the houses within are for you to go through and witness the village life.
Then, just to the north of Penglipuran Village is an incredible old growth Bamboo Forest for you to walk through.
Back in your airconditioned chariot, and you’ll be heading up to Mount Batur. This is where you will do your Volcano Explorer Tour. On this tour you’ll see and, go in if you dare, a cave formed by a lava flow pocket of air. The air inside is not like other caves, it doesn’t smell musty and still, the air is relatively fresh with no bats, yet it is pitch black like other caves. Step inside 10 – 15 meters and you won’t be able to see your hand in front of your face.
Next is the volcanic lava flow of 1964. You will be surrounded by black lava formations and will witness the extraordinary view of an active volcano in the distance. Incredible photo opportunities await. This is where Instagram and Facebook go into over-drive, with the young ones wanting to do TikTok videos. You’ll stop a few times to get out and take photos, however this tour doesn’t have any trekking or hiking. That’s right, zero trekking, zero hiking, your tour guide does all the work while he navigates the 4WD vehicle through the lava fields to get to the 1843 lava flow, you will also witness the local farmers working their vegetable gardens in small fields.
When this tour is finished, you’ll be back at the pick-up point, and once again, it’s back in the airconditioned chariot, however this time on your way to a coffee plantation. At this point, some people need a coffee and some people just want to go home, it’s been a big day. This option is completely up to you, all you need to do is inform your driver.
Big day, right. Now check the price again. Thats cheap for all of that.
Pick up is advised for 8:00am (although it can be earlier) for you to get the most value out of the day. If you would like the pick up time anywhere up to 10:00am, this is okay, however, we would like to let you know the approximate time for each activity so you can make an informed decision:
1.5 hour drive to the traditional village – depending on traffic, the later you leave the pick-up time, the more time it could take to get out of the city area
1 hour at the Traditional Village
30 minutes at the Bamboo Forest
45 minutes to the hot springs – if this option is chosen
1 hour for lunch – either at the hot springs or Rejeng Bali Camp
2 hours swimming – if this option is chosen
2 hours on the Volcano Explorer Tour
1 hour drive to a coffee plantation
45 minutes at the coffee plantation
1.5 hours back to your accommodation
Up to 11 hours total – we did tell you it was a big day out
Things can go faster; traffic will be better the earlier you go. You might spend 45 minutes at the traditional village, and 15 minutes at the Bamboo Forest. You could take 30 minutes for lunch, and you could swim for 30 minutes; you might decide to skip the coffee plantation altogether, it’s up to you, it’s your day out. We just want to ensure you have the most value from the day.
Please see above in the pick up section for an approximate drop-off time depending on the options you take. This tour is flexible, except the time for the Volcano Explorer Tour, this time will need to be set.
