Nuuksio National Park is located in Espoo and it is only 30 km from Helsinki city centre. The national park is a great place to see and enjoy the typical Finnish nature; spectacular lakes, beautiful vast forests, rugged landscapes with various trails. The national park is a testament to how important it is to be living right next to vast nature to the Finns.
The rocky lake upland is home to many species that thrive in old-growth forests, vibrant meadows, valleys, and ponds. There are 30 lakes in the area with different sizes and shapes that provide spectacular views. This green oasis in the capital region has also many nature trails with varying length and difficulty.
The benefits of walking/hiking in the forest are countless; not only it cleanses your senses and reduces your stress, it also strengthens your immune system, improves cardiovascular and metabolic health, provides simple and fun way to work out and boost your overall well-being.
In our Nuuksio National Park Hike, we will be following a carefully designed 8 km trail with moderate difficulty. This trail literally has best parts that Nuuksio has to offer! We will pass by beautiful small ponds, diverse terrain with some hills, old-growth forest, picturesque vantage points, and also camping sites.
From Helsinki: The entrance of Kulttuurihalli & Café inside the Central Railway Station (Elielinaukio 3, 00100 Helsinki). When you enter the station from the main doors, it is the large hall on the left. We will take the train and then bus to reach the starting point of our hike in Kattila in 1 hour.
From Espoo: Platform 32 at the Espoo Station. It is located on Kirkkojärventie, right outside the station building. We will take the bus from here and reach the starting point of our hike in Kattila in 25 minutes.
In Kattila: We can also meet directly at the starting point at Kattila.
We will be walking around 8-9 kilometres, comfortable hiking or walking gear and shoes are recommended. I recommend bringing couple of small snacks and water for the hike. The tours are done between May and September. In case of severe weather conditions, tour may be postponed or cancelled. Please check terms & conditions for cancellation policy. The tour is not wheelchair accessible.
We will start at Kattila next to Lake Kaitlampi, one of the northern points of the national park. Then we will make our way to Lake Ahvenisto, followed by a trail around the Lake Haukkalampi and a stop at Lake Mustalampi. Next stop is at the Recreational Centre Hawk Nest, next to Lake Haukkalampi. We will make a short stop at Lake Valklampi to gather some energy and then finish our tour at the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia with a reward; a great meal at the Haltia Restaurant.
